We love the look of super 8...and know of a great company that will lend us a camera and edit 12 minutes of film...THE QUESTION IS, can we use our digital cam-corder and get longer footage...and then have another company "treat" our digital stuff to make it look & feel like super 8? Bottom line is...the super 8 company seems a little exensive.
Hmmm?

They will convert DV to film look footage, but not cheap. Or you can add film look effects to DV footage by a software such as After Effects. (I think the Vegas is good to do so too.)
In addition the DVX100A is a DV camcorder for the film look. It is unique camera to get actual 24fps image, and gives us cine-like gamma. The quality image similar to 16mm, but very expensive!!

Good luck!

I don't know all the specs of super8 and all the digiformats so I can't give you exact information. There's about million different digital formats, editsystems, FX-programs etc.
Are you comparing super8 to mini-dv, dv-cam, dvcpro, digibeta or something else..?
What do you mean with the "looks of super8"? If you mean the resolution or colors of a good 8mm camera with good optics and steady shoot (I guess the film has something to do with this also) I think it's probably cheaper to do it in digital format ...Unless you are supposed to continue working with film in future wich I hope, of course :-)
If you mean the shaking and dirty picture (lot of people there with bad camera and no idea what they are doing) that some people consider the look of super8, you have 2 choices...
1. Buy a cheap camera that stil rolls the film(5USD) and shoot Kodakrome 40 witch is the cheapest film (developing included in the price) You'll probably get great material especially if the camera is dirty. I also like this "look", but for me it's just a style, not super8 -look.
2. Do the "look" in post production.
If you want the same result with digital format you'll end up spending a lot of money on edits and fx. Unless you have a friend working in a tv/film production company who could do it free at nighttime...
How much raw material you are thinking of filming? Is it really too expensive to do it with super8? Could it be that the feeling of super8 partly comes from the srsrzzzzszrrzrzrz you hear when you hold the camera and shoot? For me that's part of the joy and "feeling" of super8.
If you choose digital there's a "poor mans trick" that will help a little getting rid of that video-look. Shoot in shutter 25 (digital efect, not a real shutter) or use the frame-mode that some cameras have. I shoot almost every videomaterial in shutter 25.

Ps. if your film has slow-motion... shoot it on film! super8, 16mm, 35mm anything will do, shoot it on film!
